Beware of Gout Attack During the New Year Feasting
♥ Chinese New Year ♥ is around the corner! While celebrating with families and friends and indulging in festive meals and drinks, be cautious of consuming excessive alcoholic beverages and high-purine food which could trigger GOUT!
Gout occurs when there are high levels of uric acid in the blood causing deposition of urate crystals in soft tissues and joints. It most commonly affects the big toe and may also impact other body joints, resulting in swelling and severe pain.
The following patient underwent a CT scan in our department due to severe pain and swelling in his big toe. The CT imaging system detected urate crystals near the patient’s big toe, so the patient was diagnosed with gout.
