How does an MRI scan identify acute stroke?

This case involved a 98-year-old lady who suddenly lost consciousness at home. The lady was then sent to our hospital for MRI emergency service.

   

• MRI image shows extensive hyperacute infarcts over her right cerebral hemisphere.
• MRA image indicates complete occlusion of her right internal carotid artery (ICA).

Based on the above findings, the lady was diagnosed with cerebral infarction which is also known as “stroke”.
